Klein Tumescent Liposuction Course
Purpose/Need for Activity:
- Safe technique of liposuction under local anesthesia that can be preformed in an office based setting.
- To lower mortality/morbidity rate related to liposuction surgeries.
- Physicians need to be aware there are safer and more practical anesthesia methods for office-based procedures.
Target Audience:
- Skilled surgeons such as Dermatologists, OB/GYN, Vascular Surgeons, General Surgery.
Course Objectives:
- Select appropriate surgery candidates; perform tumescent anesthesia, liposuction, and post-op care.
- Decrease complications by using tumescent anesthesia for liposuction patients.
- Evaluate and assess the various types of surgical procedures for which tumescent anesthesia can be used as a more effective and safer method of anesthesia and decrease complications.
Accreditation Statement:
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine and Jeffrey Klein, MD Inc. The University of California, Irvine School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

California Assembly Bill 1195:
California Assembly Bill 1195 requires continuing medical education activities with patient care components to include curriculum in the subjects of cultural and linguistic competency. It is the intent of the bill, which went into effect on July 1, 2006, to encourage physicians and surgeons, CME providers in the state of California, and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to meet the cultural and linguistic concerns of a diverse patient population through appropriate professional development. The planners, speakers and authors of this CME activity have been encouraged to address issues relevant in their topic area. In addition, a variety of resources are available that address cultural and linguistic competency, some of which are included in your syllabus or handout materials.
